Q. What are the basic requirements to become a foster parent?
A. The Basics are:
- Must be over 21
- Pre-service trainings – (The number of hours depends on the state)
- CPR & First Aid
- Criminal Background Check
- Home Study
- Home Safety Check
- Specialized Trainings
- Have a car, valid car insurance & a clean DMV report.
- Have some flexibility in your schedule to accommodate the foster children’s court- ordered visits, therapy, medical appointments, etc.
Q. What support services do you provide for foster parents?
A. Ongoing support groups, foster parent appreciation dinners and Christmas parties
Q. Generally how long is the process of becoming a Foster/adoptive parent with Bair?
A. 2-3 months
Q. When could I realistically expect to have a child placed in my home?
A. A child can be placed soon after a family is certified. We do not have any control over the referrals we receive, so if the family has limited themselves by specifying a certain age & gender, it may take longer.
Q. When will I be able to start taking pre-service training?
A. Orientations & Trainings are held every month.
Q. After I complete the pre-service training, how long does it take for a home study?
A. The home study is scheduled within the month after the training begins and usually takes 1-3 visits depending on the state.
Q. Do both spouses have to complete training?
A. Both spouses must attend training but we will try to work around your schedule.
Q. Do you provide childcare during training?
A. Most offices are unable to provide child care.
Q. Do you provide respite?
A. Bair provides Respite two days a month. Days are determined by state regulations. Bair also actively recruits Respite Foster Parents.
Q. Do I need to own my own home?
A. You can own or rent a home or apartment as a foster parent.
Q. Do I have to be married?
A. Foster Parents can be single or married; both need a good support system such as a friend, relative or church.
Q. Do I have to be employed?
A. A foster parent must prove financial stability and be able to cover their expenses without the foster care per diem.

A. The Bair Foundation is a non-profit, Christian agency with over 50 years’ experience in child welfare. We have our own treatment model, our per diem is competitive and our support & services are exceptional.
Q. Do you verify families for foster care and adoption?
A. Foster families can be licensed as foster to adopt parents as many of the children & teens who come into our care are eligible for adoption.
Q. Are you a faith based agency? If so, do I need to be a member of that denomination?
A. We are not affiliated with any denomination but we are guided by biblical principles.
